Patrick William KING was born in 17th March 1913 in Sussex, (Cuckfield Q2-1913 2B:246), lived in Devon . Son of Colin and Lilian Margaret KING (née BRAY), of Newton Abbot, Devon, once of Brinkley Hall.

In 1939 his parents, father [28-2-1879] a medical practitioner, and mother [20-7-1880, were living at Brinkley Lodge, Penshurst Road, Newton Abbot.

The Charterhouse Roll of Honour recorded:
Patrick William KING was killed in 1941: "Captain. Born 17.3.1913, only son of Colin King FRCS and Lilian Margaret King née Bray of Newton Abbot, formerly of Brinkley Hall, Brinkley, Cambs. He was at Charterhouse [S] 1926 – 1931 and went on to RMC Sandhurst. He joined the Suffolk Regiment in 1933, serving with the 1st Battalion, and was later attached to the Northern Rhodesia Regiment. He was killed in action in Abyssinia on 9.4.41, aged 28. He is buried in Nairobi War Cemetery, Kenya, grave 2.G.14, and is commemorated in St Mary's Church at Brinkley". Dr Colin King OBE died at Newton Abbot on February 18th 1959.


He was killed in action in Abyssinia, now Ethiopia. The Northern Rhodesia Regiment were attempting to take Giarso, in the south of that country. That is where he was originally buried, but he was concentrated to Nairobi in September 1942.

So far the details of his Mention in Despatches are not known.
